About Heat pumps

Heat pumps are similar to air conditioners. They have the remarkable ability of being able to move heat either into your home and warming it or out of your home and cooling it. One difference between a heat pump and an air conditioner is that a heat pump only transfers heat whereas an air conditoner not only transfers heat but also provides ventilation. A heat pump is very similar to a refrigerator which pumps heat from inside the fridge to outside. If you feel the back of a fridge you will notice it is hot. Of course a heat pump can work in either direction, heating or cooling a room.

In New Zealand, the local climate is such, that for most of the year we are wanting to warm our homes but if we are really lucky and have a day that is too hot then a heat pump can cool your home.
